My classmates and I can say reading Romeo and Juliet is difficult! Mainly because we read it in old english and not modern english. In that case, teachers try to...
- Break the reading down in parts such as, try not to have the students read a whole act in a day but have them read a scene every day.
- Go slowly. Do not go so fast with the reading because then students won't really understand what they read.
- Have students read it to themselves first and then read out loud. I would say most of us were confused when we read it to ourselves and once our teacher read it to us, we understood so much more.
- Let the students have fun! Reading stories should be fun so maybe make some really fun activities for student so they can enjoy it. Maybe let them act a few scenes?
- Go over it with them. Have a short discussion with the class and ask the students what they understood or if they have any questions. Many student might not have understood anything and left without understanding, so make sure.
- Most importantly, work on vocabulary the best you can! When reading book like Romeo and Juliet, the vocabulary is really advanced and try your best to go over it with students.
Hope these few tips will work and you will use them someday. Not only Romeo and Juliet, but any other story really.
